Medically, when the problem of iron
deficiency anemia is diagnosed, iron tablets are usually prescribed in a
concentrated form, if the condition doesn’t improve more tests need to be done
to see what is preventing absorption. In
severe cases, blood transfusions are given.
For the Christian Jesus Christ has already given his blood for us, His
body, his bride. He has given us all
that we need for life and godliness.
“His divine power has given us
everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us
by his own glory and goodness.” 2
Peter 1:3
So it is a heartbreaking fact that
people are dying of thirst at the spring of living water, they are dying of
hunger and malnutrition at a table set with unimaginable good food,
they are gasping for spiritual air at the very source of it.
It is not lack of anything that is
causing this malady it is the inability to accept it. We need to sit down and assess our spiritual
condition. God is offering us much more
than we can ask or imagine but many times we may demand or assume things are
our right. The Holy Spirit gentle, like
a dove comes quietly, unassumingly to all who will wait on him – submitting to
Him is the cure for malabsorption. So
often the things heard in sermons, talks, bible studies, even in individual
quiet times are rejected because the cost is too high, hence they cannot be
absorbed. Choosing parts of God’s word
which coincide with our desire for comfort and satisfaction is not an option. When we begin to pick and choose the bits of
teaching that we like, we will find that we may plateau out, or even begin on a descent, leading
away from the mountain top with the Lord.
We become like children who become picky with food and may even spit out
the things they dislike. God gives us
food to eat, he also gives us the ability to absorb it and make it a part of
our lives.
O Lord, have mercy upon us, that none of us may suffer from spiritual anaemia.
